The Fishing School presents the following for June, July and August:
Beginners’ Class:
At this stage the training will be focusing on the Spey-cast. Step by step the students will be thoroughly introduced to the technique. The main thing at this stage is to learn the basics of fly-fishing. However, the use of various equipment and fishing in practice will also be topics that you will learn at the beginners’ class.
Instructions will be individually adapted to each student’s desires and level of skills to obtain a maximum of outcome from the stay. You will be introduced to both the one-hand rod and the two-hand rod.
The class includes lodging, breakfast and dinner, instructor and fishing fees. Classes will be held during entire June, July and August.

Advanced Learner’s Class:
This is the proper level for those who really want something extra. Every step from the Beginners’ Class will be presented and in addition the students will be offered a string of extras.
This level is for the angler with some experience. Such as former students from the Beginners’ Class and others that master the Spey-cast well. This course will focus more on details such as; how to achieve extreme lengths, different slants on the Spey-cast and various kinds of special techniques. A large part of the course will also dwell on the proper use of sink lines.
At his stage we will emphasize the focus on details. This is extremely important to the ultimate fly-fisher.
This class is for those above average interested in casting. Those, who not only want to improve their casting for the sake of the casting itself, but see the importance of it in order to achieve efficient fishing.
Instructors’ Class:
Syrstad Flyfishing’s classes in Spey-casting are designed to give each participant an opportunity to become a certified instructor. LOOP/LTS will issue a written approval to participants when class is passed.
To pass you must undergo a theoretical as well as a practical test.
Those who fail will be given the opportunity to try again later on. Results will not be made public, but students will be presented with a written evaluation personally. This evaluation will account for the student’s results and suggest what needs to be improved to pass the test next time.
Just like every other class, this one will also include fishing fees in addition to instructions and time for practicing on your own.
Ladies’ Class:
Through the years many female fly-fishers have requested programs specifically reserved for ladies. As a courtesy to these women we have been presenting such a program for four consecutive years now. These are exact replicas of the other classes, but for ladies only.
We do hope and believe that this will become more than a useful and instructive time. We also want it to be a time to be remembered for the special atmosphere and good times only female fellowship can create

The Spey-cast using long lines:
Casting is fun. And as most fly-fishers find; the more you practice the more fun you get. That is why quite a few fly-fishers have recently picked up an interest in Spey-casting using long lines. This is challenging and extremely fun, and for many that have found they are stagnating after years of progress, we hope that this course may be what they need to rediscover the joy and keenness from learning something new.
This may even be what excellent casters need if they have played with the idea of entering casting competitions but not quite got there yet. This certainly is a good place to start.
For the most part training will take place by and in the river. But there will also be some casting at our own «casting-track», where there are possibilities of exact measuring and precision-casting targets.
Juniors’ Class:
After years of requests for fly-fishing kits and courses specially adapted for kids we are proud to present the Juniors’ Class. The Juniors’ Kit have existed for some time already.

This is the class where kids attend lessons while mom, dad or both are fishing the streams nearby.
We will do our best to make the learning exciting and inspiring to the kids. Subjects like safe wading, choosing the fly, drilling and landing (and releasing) the fish, how to behave in and near the river (ethics) and last but not least, how to make the fishing gear catch fish will be presented.

Practical training emphasizing different techniques:
The fishing school has emphasized pure casting techniques and fishing strategies on all levels this far. After numerous national and international requests we present a course in practical fly-fishing for salmon this year. At this course the main emphasis will be on all the different conditions that may occur in the river and where to use different fishing techniques. In short; how increase the chance for fish.
Note that even this course will emphasize training and fine tuning casting techniques. This is the course for those wanting to become complete fly-fishers |
